ABOUT WARRIORTIDES

In August 2018, Mihir Kasmalkar and Ansel Austin created WarriorTides as a platform for students to express their creativity through engineering. Having previously participated in many traditional STEM programs, both Mihir and Ansel were discouraged by the lack of student involvement in their teams. They set out to establish a completely student-run program where mentors would help students with technical skills instead of micromanaging them.

The WarriorTides team started with a sparse amount of engineering experience but with immense passion and great collaboration, they overcame their lack of knowledge. In 2019 WarriorTides participated in their very first MATE ROV competition. They placed fifth in their Monterey regional with their debut ROV, the HubeTube. The Hube Tube, despite its rudimentary design, won fifth place in the regional beating two colleges.

The WarriorTides team continues to improve and strive for excellence. This year the team will participate in their second regional MATE ROV competition in Monterey. The team hopes to learn new techniques and aims to reach the international competition with their new ROV the SousaSub. The SousaSub, designed and assembled by students, demonstrates the WarriorTides continuously improving capabilities and teamwork.
